How do I apply for a grant from the 47th Avenue Foundation?

To simplify the grant application process, we request a grant application that was previously submitted to a different organization. We want to better understand your organization, and make sure our mission aligns. Please submit a previously completed grant applications to grants@47ave.org and include your organizations 501 (c)(3) determination status letter.

What happens after we submit a grant request?

Our team will review the application and reach out with follow up questions. If your organization aligns with our mission and geographic area, we will schedule an on-site visit. Our goal is to schedule on-site visits within four weeks of the grant proposal.

What happens after a site visit?

After the on-site visit, our team reviews the request and reaches out with a funding decision within four weeks following the on-site visit.

What are the funding areas for the 47th Avenue Foundation?

We fund organizations and programs that improve the well-being of children in King County.

What is the grant application review process?

We are looking for something that tells us more about your organization and its mission. To simplify the grant application process, we ask applicants to send copies of previously submitted applications to other foundations. Please send the grant requests to grants@47ave.org. Upon receipt, our team will review the application and reach out with follow up questions. If your organization aligns with our mission and geographic area, we will schedule an on-site visit. After the on-site visit, our team reviews the request and reaches out with a funding decision. Funding decisions are made after the on-site visit.

When are funding decisions made?

Funding decisions are made within four weeks following the on-site visit.

What organizations are eligible for applying?

Organizations must be located and serving children currently living in King County. They also must be a 501(c)(3) organization.

Is there an application deadline?

No, we have a rolling application window. However, organizations are only eligible to submit one grant request per 12-month period. For example, if you submit a grant application in January then the organization must wait until the following January or later to submit their next application.

What is the geographical area supposed to be the 47th Avenue Foundation?

We support organizations that serve children in King County.

What are topic request items for a grant application?

We fund projects and programs focused on childhood education, housing & emergency services for families and healthcare services for children.

Do you support capital or general operating requests?

We support both. As part of the process, we want to understand the challenges your organization is facing and how we can best support. This can be in the form of operating grants, capital campaigns or specific projects.

In the past, what are types of grants funded by the 47th Avenue Foundation?

Recently, most of our grants have funded general operating costs for our partners based on their requests. For one of our partners, they were looking to build out an engineering room for their students, so we provided the funds to equip that space with what the students need.

What is an average grant amount?

Our grant amount varies depending on the organizations size and/or project needs. The average grant size in the last year has ranged from $5,000 to $20,000.

Do you make multi-year gifts?

As we are a new foundation, we do not currently have multi-year grants that we fund. Moving forward, this is something we are looking to incorporate with those organizations that we are able to establish a strong partnership with. If there is a specific project that has a need for a multi-year gift, please tell us about it during the grant application and we can discuss more during the on-site visit.

Does 47th Avenue Foundation have specific priority areas?

  • We focus on the following areas for children ages 0-18, with an emphasis on ages 0-12:

    • Basic services

    • Education

    • Health and well-being

Can my organization apply consecutive years?

Yes, organizations are welcome to reapply annually.

Can my organization apply multiple times per year?

No, grants will not be reviewed if more than one is submitted in any 12-month period. Please only apply for one grant per 12-month period.

How much does the 47th Avenue Foundation give away per year?

It varies each year, but we expect to award roughly 100 grants per year.
